About

About Adel & Sarah
A father–daughter team whose lives were shaped by brain injury, recovery, caregiving, and the search for connection after trauma.

Our Story Begins Here

What began as separate journeys through traumatic and acquired brain injury became a shared mission.

Adel Shadi is a traumatic brain injury survivor whose path evolved into decades of caregiving, mentorship, and advocacy.

Sarah Shadi, PhD, is an acquired brain injury survivor who turned lived experience into academic purpose, focusing her work on clinical psychology, neurorehabilitation, and social isolation.

Together, they transformed hardship into guidance for others.

Why This Work Matters

Recovery is often discussed medically, but many survivors and caregivers know another truth:

The emotional and social consequences can last just as long.

Isolation, identity change, uncertainty, and the struggle to find a new normal are common parts of the journey.

This work exists to help people feel seen, understood, and connected.

What Makes Us Different
We bring together:
  • Lived experience as survivors

  • Long-term caregiving insight

  • Academic expertise

  • Real-world resilience

  • A human-centered approach to healing

Beyond the Book

Our work also supports the growing End Social Isolation movement, helping communities create meaningful connection through activity-based support and inclusive programming.

Let's Connect

If our story resonates with you, we welcome thoughtful connection.

We provide educational and experience-based guidance. We do not provide therapy, diagnosis, medical advice, or clinical treatment.

Moments That Changed Everything

1. The day everything changed

A childhood stroke became the beginning of a life shaped by recovery, courage, and reinvention.

2. Mentorship became survival

A father’s lived experience became a guide — not to fix, but to walk beside.

3. Recovery became an education

Seizures, fatigue, and cognitive limits stretched timelines — but they also shaped insight.

4. Isolation became the turning point

When connection disappeared, the mission became clear: community must be built on purpose.

5. A new normal emerged

Healing wasn’t a return to “before.” It became a slow discovery of what could still be.

6. The story became the work

What was lived in private became a public offering — a book, a mission, and a growing community.
